Enrolling and Attending

Our courses do not provide academic credit towards degree programs. Therefore, no exams are administered nor are grades conferred. We do not offer letter grades or a pass/fail designation. A certificate of completion is granted to each participant upon completion of each course. To qualify for an Executive Certificate, participants must enroll in a track, complete four programs--three from their chosen track, along with one other program from any of the three tracks--within a four-year period.

Since our courses do not grant academic credit we are not able to offer official transcripts that are sealed and stamped. The document that we are able to provide is a .pdf letter confirming the courses completed and the dates. We do not provide notary services.

For each open enrollment course, you can see ratings based on actual participants' feedback shared upon completing a program and once participants have had the time to start applying what they have learned in classrooms to real-world situations. We have implemented Executive Education Units (EEUs) as part of Executive Certificate and ACE requirements. Each course has been assigned a number of EEUs which count toward Certificate requirements and replace "Program Days" which did not accurately represent many online courses.
Please refer to the course detail page to find the location for that specific course. In person programs are usually held in Cambridge, MA. Many courses are offered online.

Several of our self-paced online courses are offered through online educational providers such as GetSmarter and Emeritus. By working with such providers, MIT Sloan Executive Education is able to broaden access beyond on-campus offerings in a collaborative and engaging format that stays true to the quality of MIT Sloan and MIT as a whole.  self-paced-online-experience

Application Information

We accept applications to most courses throughout the year, until the offering reaches capacity at which point we will maintain a waitlist*. There are a few courses that indicate an early application deadline on their details page. For the majority of courses, you are welcome to apply at any time. (However, you should apply at least two weeks prior to the offering start date to ensure you receive and have time to study any pre-reading materials. Some courses have early application deadlines which are noted in the course details.) There is no specific application period, but many of the courses fill up several months in advance, so we advise that you submit applications prior to that timeframe.

  • Please note: Participants traveling from other countries should also submit applications and payments well before the course dates so that we can provide you with the letter you will need in order to obtain your visa.
  • * Business Sprints are completely asynchronous, and you will have access to the on-demand course work once you have enrolled and submitted payment for the course. Please allow up 20 minutes for processing before accessing. You should enroll when you are ready to start the 30-day access period.
In order to receive a program certificate of completion, you must attend the entire course. In addition, if you cannot attend the full course, you will not receive any Executive Certificate or ACE credit for the course. There will be no partial credit granted for any program that is not fully completed. If you find that you cannot attend the full program for which you are registered, we advise to you defer your enrollment to the next session. Please see our Cancellation and Deferral policies for more information.

You are enrolled in a course once you have applied, been accepted, and have paid in full. (Enrollment in an Executive Certificate track alone does not enroll you in any individual courses. You still need to apply to the specific courses you have selected to fulfill your Executive Certificate track requirements.)
After you have been accepted by the faculty, the registrar will send you notification of your acceptance by e-mail. The details about the course will be sent along with this acceptance package. An acceptance package will include an invoice for the tuition fee, as well as hotel (if applicable )and other important information.
Please log in or create your account. Once you are logged in and on your profile page, you can see a list of the courses you have completed and how close you are to earning an Executive Certificate.
All participants will receive a certificate of course completion once they have successfully completed the course they are participating in.
Log in to the website and search for the courses that interest you. Once you have chosen a course, select the date you’d like to attend, and add it to your cart. After you are done adding courses to your cart, you will begin the checkout process. We anticipate that it will take you approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete the application and pay for the course. Once you hit the Submit button, you will receive an email confirming that you have successfully applied for a course.
  • Please note: It is important to apply early if you are planning to pay by any means other than credit card since your enrollment is not guaranteed until payment is received. It can often take time to arrange payment with your organization. Also, payment is required before a visa can be issued. All information given on applications will be treated as confidential. It will be used only for internal MIT Sloan purposes and will not be provided to a third party.
It normally takes only 7 to 10 business days for the faculty committee to review your application.

Payments

MIT is currently registered for India GST (Goods and Services Tax). This is a sales tax on all digital services imposed by India, including online education, supplied via the internet to customers located in India. MIT is required to collect any tax if the Indian customer is not already registered for India GST, e.g., B2B. The current GST rate for the sale of digital services in India is 18 percent. If India GST is applies to you, please email us at execed-registration@mit.edu before submitting your payment so we can adjust your invoice to include GST, or provide your GSTID number if you are exempt from paying India GST.
Certificate programs and professional learning opportunities at MIT that are not part of an undergraduate or graduate requirement, are not eligible. What you need to do:
  • Confirm your program eligibility through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Visit the WEAMS website.
  • Type Massachusetts Institute of Technology into the “Institution Name” field and hit “return” on your keyboard.
  • Click on the result — Massachusetts Institute of Technology — and select the Programs tab on the right.
  • Click on “Institution of Higher Learning” to view VA-approved programs.” *GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government Web site at http://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.
Absolutely. If you provide the wiring agency with your invoice number and obtain the bank transfer reference number this will facilitate the payment process. If accepted into the program, your invoice will contain details on paying via wire transfer.
MIT employees (including Lincoln Laboratory employees) with tuition assistance benefits can use those benefits to pay for MIT Sloan Executive Education non-degree courses. Learn more here.

If your organization requires us to use your internal system, there will be a $1,000 (one-time) set up fee to your organization. In addition, there will be a $250 processing fee for each invoice. To avoid these fees, please follow our payment directions, which are included on each invoice and submit your credit card, check, or wire transfer payment promptly.

Our department is not legally permitted to sign or complete any contracts, surveys, or forms on behalf of MIT. All documents must be reviewed by either the legal or procurement teams at MIT. In many cases they will not sign vendor contracts with organizations, or complete surveys/questionnaires as MIT Sloan Executive Education does not consider itself to be a supplier/vendor to an organization, but rather a provider of educational courses that organizations are welcome to send their employees to.

Please contact the Program Registration Team directly regarding your payment. Each participant is responsible for ensuring that his or her invoice is paid. If there are specific government forms that need to be submitted, it is your responsibility to make sure that the forms are properly submitted and that your payment is processed in a timely manner. If you need to use a personal card to secure your seat in your course, we can refund this upon receipt of payment on your behalf.
The course fee covers tuition and materials. For in person courses this also includes meals during the day and some programs also include one or more evening receptions. Please refer to the specific course webpage or brochure to see what is covered for that program.

We accept the following methods of payment: check, wire transfer, or major credit card including Amex, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.
If admitted to a course, an acceptance email will be sent electronically and will contain an invoice for the tuition fee. The invoice is payable upon receipt.
An invoice will be issued upon checkout. You can download your invoice through your account by clicking on your name in the top right corner, followed by Payment Center. There you will be able to download your invoice and future receipt, as well as change the billing information you need displayed on the invoice.

Discounts

Yes. We offer several discounts. See the list below for more information. Discounts cannot be combined or used in conjunction with any other offer. Changes to your program registrations may affect any previously applied discounts (e.g. the multiple program registration discount), and may result in an increase in individual program registration fees. Some exclusions apply: click here to see the list of courses which are not eligible for discounts. Please contact us for the complete terms and conditions.

  • Affiliate Discounts:  The following Affiliates are eligible for discounts on MIT Sloan Executive Education open enrollment courses held in Massachusetts and live online courses. (Some exclusions apply: click here to see the list of programs which are not eligible for discounts.)
    • MIT degreed alumni receive a 20% discount
    • MIT Sloan Executive Certificate holders receive a 20% discount
    • Industrial Liaison Program (ILP) members receive a 15% discount
    • MIT Center for Information Systems Research (CISR) patrons and sponsors receive a 15% discount
    • MIT Center for Collective Intelligence (CCI) sponsors receive a 15% discount
    • MIT Center for Digital Business (CDB) sponsors receive a 15% discount
    • MIT Energy Initiative (MITei) members receive a 15% discount
    • MIT Media Lab sponsors receive a 15% discount

      To receive your discount, you must enter the appropriate Discount Code on your application form. To obtain your code, please contact the office or research center with which you are affiliated.

 

  • Team Discounts  When two or more participants from one organization attend an open enrollment course together, each participant is eligible for a 10% tuition discount. When three or more participants from one organization attend an open enrollment course together, each participant is eligible for a 15% tuition discount. Please select either the "I'm enrolling myself and others" or "I'm enrolling others, but won't take the courses" button on your application and include the other team members' information. As long as you submit the application for at least two participants, the discount should be reflected on your invoices. If your team members have submitted separate applications, please email execed-registration@mit.edu and let us know the program and the names of all team members who will be attending. We will revise your invoices to reflect the team discount. (Some exclusions apply.)
    • Please note: There is a cap on the number of participants from an organization who can attend a single session of a course this cap is tied to the maximum capacity for a session and varies from session to session. Please contact the Program Registration Team atexeced-registration@mit.edu to inquire about the maximum number of participants allowed for the session of interest.

 

  • Multiple Program Registration Discount  When you register at one time for two or three courses (using a single application form), you are eligible for a 10% discount on each course. Or register for four or more courses and receive 15% off each course. (Some exclusions apply.)

In Person Courses

Accommodations are not available on campus for early arrival, late departure, or family members. You may reserve a room at one of several hotels in the area. Please refer to this list of hotels in the immediate area to find suitable lodging.
Meals are often included, however this varies by program. Please see the information for the program you are interested in attending.
Participants with special dietary requirements are encouraged to contact us prior to their arrival and update their dietary preferences in their profile.

Shopping: On campus bookstore - The COOP. Cambridge and Boston offer an eclectic mix of shopping emporia, from designer boutiques to vintage and thrift warehouses. Some of the major districts include: CambridgeSide Galleria, Harvard Square, Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market, Newbury Street, Prudential Center, Copley Place.

Restaurants: Options abound for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, both on-campus and nearby in Cambridge.

Parking in Cambridge and Boston is generally not an enjoyable experience. Whenever possible, park your car at the hotel at which you are staying, and use public transportation to get to the MIT campus. If you must drive to the campus, there are both on- and off-street parking available. There are several commercial parking lots in Kendall Square, including a large indoor lot at the Marriott Hotel. If you are coming to campus, we highly recommend the use of public transportation and taxis.

Logan International Airport is less than 6 miles away from the MIT Campus and is located at 1 Harborside Drive, East Boston, MA 02128.
Please refer to the pcourse webpage or brochure to see if lodging is included in the price of tuition for your program. Most programs do NOT include lodging. If your program does include lodging, then you will receive information about your accommodations after you have been accepted. If your program does not include lodging, you can use our list of nearby hotels to find suitable lodging in the area.

MIT Sloan is located on the north shore of the Charles River Basin in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. It is adjacent to Cambridge's Kendall Square. The campus is within 3 miles of two major interstate highways, less than 6 miles from a major international airport, and is accessible via public transportation. MIT Sloan is a 15-30 minute walk from downtown Boston (depending on the weather). MIT Sloan is a 30-40 minute walk from Harvard University (located just up the river from the MIT campus).

  • Via Public Transportation:   MBTA ("The T") Subway -- By train, take the Red Line to the Kendall/MIT Station. Once above ground (you will be on Main Street), head for the nearby Bank of America on the corner of Wadsworth Street. Walk half a block down Wadsworth Street toward the Charles River, then cross the street to a wide flight of stone steps -- the MIT Sloan Plaza. The Hermann Building (which houses the MIT Sloan library and faculty offices; also known as E53) is straight ahead, and the main MIT Sloan building (E52) is on your right.-- The CT2 (Cross Town) stops at the Kendall Square T Station, as well as on the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Vassar St., near the main MIT entrance. The #1 or Dudley/Harvard Station bus stops at the main MIT entrance on Massachusetts Avenue and provides transportation to Central Square and Harvard Square.
  • From Logan International Airport:
    By taxi - Taxi fare from the airport is about $30-$35. During non-rush hour, the taxi ride will take about 15 minutes. During rush hour, the ride could take 30 minutes or more.

    By subway - From any terminal at Logan Airport, take the Silver Line bus to South Station. At South Station, change to the Red Line subway to Kendall/MIT (inbound toward Alewife). Under normal conditions the ride will take about one-half hour and the fare is $1.70 (using the Charlie Card) or $2.00 (cash).

    By car - Leaving the airport follow the signs to the Sumner Tunnel. Entering the tunnel keep in the right lane. At the end of the tunnel, keeping in the right lane, start down an incline and bear to the right immediately at the sign for Storrow Drive. Take Exit 26 for Cambridge/Somerville. Follow the Back Bay/Cambridge signs (do not take the exit for Cambridge/Somerville). Keep in the right lane and follow the Storrow Drive Westbound signs. After passing under the pedestrian walkbridges, change to the left lane and take Exit 2A-N. Turn right and cross the Harvard Bridge (Massachusetts Avenue). MIT's main entrance, 77 Massachusetts Avenue, will be on the right at the second set of traffic lights. Take a right onto Vassar Street. Follow it into Kendall Square, which is adjacent to the MIT Sloan campus.

 

  • Driving
    From the North (I-95 or I-93): If you are heading south on I-93, follow I-93 into Boston then follow the I-93 instructions below. If you are heading south on I-95, take the I-93 South exit then follow the instructions from I-93. Alternatively, take the I-90 East exit from I-95 then follow the instructions from I-90.

    From the South (I-95 or I-93): If you are heading north on I-93, follow I-93 (the Southeast Expressway) into Boston then follow the I-93 instructions below. If you are heading north on I-95, take the I-93 North exit then follow the instructions from I-93. Alternatively, take the I-90 East exit from I-95 then follow the instructions from I-90.

    From the West (I-90) (Mass Turnpike): Follow I-90 east to the Cambridge/Brighton exit (exit 18). Following the signs to Cambridge, cross the River Street Bridge, and continue straight about 1 mile to Central Square. Turn right onto Massachusetts Avenue and follow Massachusetts Avenue for about a half mile. Take a left onto Vassar Street (before the main entrance to MIT). Follow it into Kendall Square, which is adjacent to the MIT Sloan campus.

    From Route I-93: From I-93, take exit 26, and follow the signs to Back Bay along Storrow Drive West, approximately 1.5 miles, to the exit for Route 2A. The exit will be on the left, just before the Harvard Bridge (more appropriately called the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge). The Charles River will be on your right. As you cross the bridge, you will be looking at MIT -- the Great Dome and academic facilities are on the right, the dormitories and athletic facilities are on the left. After you cross the bridge, continue on Massachusetts Avenue. The main entrance to MIT will be on your right. Take a right onto Vassar Street. Follow it into Kendall Square, which is adjacent to the MIT Sloan campus.

International Participants

MIT Sloan Executive Education does not provide translation services for its programs. Participants are required to be fluent in understanding, speaking, and reading English but no specific exam is required.
Absolutely. If you provide the wiring agency with your invoice number and obtain the bank transfer reference number this will facilitate the payment process.

It is the participant's responsibility to understand and comply with the entry requirements for travel to the United States. Please note that some citizens are required to hold a Machine Readable Passport or visa in order to enter the United States. View the Department of State, or contact your local embassy or consulate, to determine the requirements based on your country of origin. If you require a visa invitation letter, please contact the Program Registration Team at execed-registration@mit.edu as soon as possible after your full payment has been made and at least 10 days prior to the date you need to have the letter in hand.

Due to the recent increase in visa fraud, MIT will issue a visa invitation letter only after program acceptance and upon receipt of payment in full. In addition, $1,000 of your program payment will be considered a non-refundable deposit should you be unable to attend the program, regardless of cancellation/deferral date or reason. Within 42 days of the program start date, the standard cancellation and deferral fees also apply. Please see our Cancellation and Deferral policies for more information.

Many Canadian citizens and many citizens from Visa Waiver Program countries can come to the U.S. without a visa if they meet certain requirements. Other foreign citizens will need a nonimmigrant visa. For more information about visa and passport requirements, visit the Department of State.
MIT Sloan Executive Education does not require the TOEFL. Participants are required to be fluent in understanding, speaking, and reading English but no specific exam is required. Your experience and background is in line with that of a large number of our participants and you are welcome to register for the courses.

No. Earning an Executive Certificate does not grant you academic credit.
You will not earn MIT Sloan alumni status from completing an Executive Certificate. Participants that earn the Advanced Executive Certificate Program in Management, innovation & Technology (ACE) or complete the Advanced Management Program (AMP) or Executive Program in General Management will benefit from MIT Sloan Affiliate Alumni status, inclusion in the MIT Sloan alumni directory, an MIT Sloan email-forwarding-for-life address, and a subscription to the MIT Sloan alumni newsletter.

Enrollment and Costs

As our programs are non-academic, no exams are administered nor are grades conferred. We do not offer letter grades or a pass/fail designation. A certificate of completion is granted to each participant upon completion of each course. To qualify for an Executive Certificate, participants must enroll in a track, complete four courses-three from their chosen track, along with one other program from any of the three tracks-within a four-year period. At least one of the courses must be attended in person or live online.
The four-year time frame begins with your first course start date. For example, if you attended your first program in January 2026, you must complete your fourth program by January 2030.

No, you pay on a per course basis. You have a four-year period to complete the four required programs. However, we also offer a multi-registrationdiscounts where all course registrations must be submitted via a single application form in order to take advantage of the discount.

The .pdf and CVTrust digitally verified .pdf should be available for download in your Executive Certificate Planner dashboard shortly after your last course has been completed. For in person courses you will recieve a hard copy of your certificate at the course. For online courses, you will be mailed a hard copy post course completion.

At least one of the courses must be attended in person or live online.

In order to receive a program certificate of completion, you must attend the entire program. In addition, if you cannot attend the full course, you will not receive any Executive Certificate or ACE credit for the program. There are many different program combinations available when designing the Executive Certificate plan that is right for you. We have created a few sample plans which you can see on each track detail page.

Participants must enroll in an Executive Certificate (including the Advanced Certificate for Executives - ACE) in order to earn that certificate. You can enroll at any time during your certificate journey, and eligible past courses will be credited toward the Executive Certificate (or ACE), but you must officially enroll in order to track your status and have the certificate issued. Executive Certificate enrollment is free. If you are not currently enrolled in an Executive Certificate, there are two ways to do so:

  • Visit the executivecertificateplanner in your account to verify your enrollment status and enroll in a track or tracks.
  • Visit an Executive Certificate track page to enroll. In the red Enroll Now bar, click add to cart. Check out.
Please download and print your certificate .pdf from you your Executive Certificate Planner dashboard. You can email the registration team (execed-registration@mit.edu) with a request for a replacement certificate however there may be fees charged to do so.
The Executive Certificate is designed to work with your schedule. The only requirements for the Executive Certificate are that you enroll in the track(s) you would like to pursue then apply for, are accepted to, and complete three courses within your chosen track and one additional "elective" program (from any of the three tracks) within a four-year period. At least one of the courses must be attended in person or live online. It is even possible to earn an Executive Certificate within one two-week visit when courses are scheduled back-to-back in person.

The Executive Certificate is designed to meet your individual education needs. You attend four courses: three in your chosen track and one additional program, your "elective". The total cost to you would be the costs of the individual programs you attend. We also offer a multi-registrationdiscounts

Consistent with MIT’s diploma format, your certificate(s) will list your full name only. You may include a middle name or initial. If you are a "Jr." or a "III", that is considered part of your name, so it may be included. But other than that, nothing else; nothing before your name (no rank, no honorific, no courtesy title) and nothing after your name (no academic or any other kind of post-nominals abbreviation for an honor or professional membership). Inscribing a certificate with just the certificate holder’s name emphasizes that the award is for the individual without reference to any office or position they might hold or have held. The honor is to them without regard to how their name might be written at a particular time in their life.

Tracks and Eligible Programs

No, credit from courses taken at other universities or in other divisions of MIT will not be applied to an Executive Certificate. Only MIT Sloan Executive Education programs qualify for Executive Certificate credit.

Yes, as long as you complete all four programs within a four-year period, programs taken prior to enrolling in a certificate track will qualify. You will still need to enroll in the certificate track for the courses to be counted.
Yes, you may apply programs you have already taken toward another Executive Certificate or ACE. For example: You earned the Management and Leadership certificate with three programs from that track and one elective from the Strategy and Innovation track. You now want to pursue the Executive Certificate in Strategy and Innovation. You may count the previously taken Strategy and Innovation program toward one of the three required Strategy and Innovation programs, and you may count one of the previously taken Management and Leadership programs as the Strategy and Innovation elective, provided all courses are still within the four year period. So, in this example, you would need to complete only two additional programs to earn the second Executive Certificate.

You cannot take two programs from one track and two from another for example. Nor can you take two programs from one track and then one from each of the other tracks. To qualify for each certificate, participants must complete three programs from their chosen track along with one other program from any of the tracks:

TheAdvanced Certificate for Executives in Management, Innovation, and Technology is an Executive Certificate for participants who complete 25 EEUs and at least two programs from each of the three core Executive Certificate tracks (Management and Leadership; Strategy and Innovation; Technology and Operations)  within a four-year period. (At least 10 EEUs must be completed on-site or live online versus through self-paced online course.) ACE represents an extraordinary commitment to learning. It is comparable to a traditional advanced management program (AMP) in terms of cutting-edge content, access to today's thought leaders, and excellent networking opportunities. However, the flexible, customizable format of ACE allows participants to design their own curriculum by choosing the programs that best fit their needs.

A participant pursuing an ACE must attend 25 EEUs in total, and at least 10 of those  must be completed in person or live online.

Participants must enroll in an Executive Certificate (including the Advanced Certificate for Executives - ACE) in order to earn that certificate. You can enroll at any time during your certificate journey, and eligible past courses will be credited toward the Executive Certificate (or ACE), but you must officially enroll in order to track your status and have the certificate issued. If you are only comfortable sharing limited information but still want to have a public profile, our privacy settings allow for a highly customized experience.

Yes. For Organizations at MIT Sloan are a collaborative effort between MIT Sloan faculty and senior leaders of your firm. These educational engagements focus on advancing the strategic objectives of your firm, emphasizing application of theory in practice, and identifying effective action.
