Brooks Life Science Systems – Automated Solutions Group
Summary
Robin joined Brooks in 2014 as part of the FluidX acquisition, teaming to lead this business to consecutive years of 50% growth. Prior to joining Brooks, Robin held a number of progressive leadership positions including Director of European Sales for Thermo-Fisher, General Manager and Product Manager for Hollow Fiber Bioreactors and a number of technical and scientific positions with MRC (Cambridge) and AstraZeneca, where he focused on monoclonal antibody and assay development. In addition to his role as the Automated Stores BU Leader, Robin will lead an advisory team within BLSS to devise cross-business solutions that drive accelerated growth, profitability and market share gains.
Bio
After spending a number of years at the Medical Research Council (Cambridge, UK) and AstraZeneca (UK), developing monoclonal antibodies and double antibody capture assays, I decided to pursue a more commercial role.
1992 – 1997; Integra Biosciences
Joined as a Sales Specialist (Tissue Culture Equipment) and progressed within the company to become UK Country Manager and International Product Manager for Cell Culture products.
Helped to develop Hollow Fibre Bioreactors and Cell Line (membrane diffusion cell culture flask used to isolate mammalian cell from the expressed proteins and antibodies of interest).
1997 – 2006; Matrix Technologies Europe/ROW, Director European Sales
Set up the Europe and Rest of World section of Matrix Technologies with colleague and co-founder of FluidX, Robert Moore.
As part of the global management team we were actively involved in product development, championing the design of 2D Barcoded Sample Storage Tubes and development of the world’s first whole rack reader for 2D barcoded tubes.
Matrix Technologies was acquired by Apogent Technologies and, as a result of our past success, we were asked to also manage two other European businesses (Robbins Scientific and Biorobotics). Apogent Technologies was then acquired by Fisher Biosciences and then merged with Thermo to become Thermo Fisher. We decided to set up FluidX Ltd just prior to this last change.
2006 – 2011; ELRIG, Director and Secretary
'The ELRIG (European Laboratory Robotics Interest Group) is a not for profit organisation, whose primary purpose is to provide a communication forum for users and vendors within the scientific research, development or production community (Industrial and Academic), within which members may be educated and network with other members, thus increasing their awareness of automation techniques and products used for scientific research, development or production.'
