During this webinar, MIT Sloan Senior Lecturer Bruce Cameron will cover takeaways from the MIT Commonality Study in an EV case study. As yet, it is unclear yet whether the “hybrid trap” is real: will gas and electric vehicle manufacturers attempt to share platforms in hopes of economies of scale, or will dedicated EV platforms win out? Given substantial tech and market uncertain remains (witness the pivots that Toyota, GM, and others have made in response to Tesla), are EV platforms even feasible, or will manufacturers need to pivot away from platforms to hold market share?
