Learning sustainable methods for increasing your productivity

Are you feeling overwhelmed at work?  Do you feel like you don't have enough time for family and friends?

If so, take my executive education course at MIT Sloan Executive Education: Maximizing Your Personal Productivity, March 20–21. The course consists of four substantial sessions over two days, with time to network and make friends. Each session will help you master a different and important aspect of personal productivity.

The first session will teach you how to set your priorities and then integrate them into your daily schedule. It will also show you how to tackle efficiently your high-priority projects—by starting early with tentative conclusions.

The second session will teach you how to overcome the key internal and external constraints on your productivity. The internal constraints include procrastination and perfectionism; the external barriers include emails and meetings.

The third session will teach you how to manage up and down the organizational ladder.  You will learn how to delegate appropriate tasks to your team, and how to effectively manage your critical relationship with your boss.

The fourth session will help you become a better reader by thinking first about what you want to get out of the material. Similarly, it will help you become a better writer by using advance outlines as well as connector clauses and the active voice.

All these session are a lot of fun—no boring lecturers or tedious tests. Instead, each session draws upon case studies from real situations and gets you actively involved through buzz groups and role plays.

In the end, you will receive more than two days of stimulating and memorable experiences and take home new approaches and practical suggestions that will serve you well for the rest of your life. This course will teach you sustainable methods to think more rigorously, research more quickly , organize more effectively, and communicate more clearly.

About Robert Pozen
Bob Pozen is a Senior Lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the Harvard Business School as well as a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. He has extensive experience in business, government, and journalism.

Pozen was Executive Chairman of MFS Investment Management from 2004 to 2011; during this period, the assets of MFS more than doubled from a starting point of $130 billion. From 1987 through 2001, he served in various positions at Fidelity Investments. During his tenure as President of Fidelity Management and Research, from 1997 thru 2001, the assets of the Fidelity Funds rose from $500 billion to $900 billion. Pozen served as Associate General Counsel of the SEC in the late 1970s, and Chairman of the SEC's Advisory Committee on Financial Reporting in 2007-2008. He was a member of the President's Commission to Strengthen Social Security, and served as Secretary of Economic Affairs under Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

Pozen has taught at Georgetown and NYU as well as Harvard and MIT. He has published seven books, mainly on financial issues. His latest book, Extreme Productivity: Boost Your Results, Reduce Your Hours, was #3 on Fast Company’s list of best business books for 2012. In addition, he often writes editorials for the Financial Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.
