Advanced Certificate for Senior Executives
2012 session: May 29 to June 29 (now closed)
2013 session: May 28 to June 28
The Advanced Certificate for Senior Executives (ACSE) is an intense, five weeks of executive education held on campus at MIT Sloan in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Offered to an intimate group of senior business leaders from around the globe, it is designed to engage them in a powerful learning experience that exposes them both to MIT world class faculty and their research, and to colleagues who share similar experiences and responsibilities. MIT's senior executive training program is selective and purposely limited to 30 executives only.
“A holistic experience of the best concepts and faculty MIT Sloan can offer—plus practical advice for taking action.”
- Region Head, Pharmaceutical Firm
Custom Learning
The senior executive training program design blends two weeks of custom learning with three weeks of MIT’s valued open enrollment courses. Custom components are designed to meet the needs of seasoned, mature executives who are facing issues that present themselves differently to leaders of functions or businesses. Topics will include Change Management, Crisis Management, Strategic Negotiations, Strategic Speed, and Innovation. In addition to the classroom work, this custom part of ACSE will include a leadership simulation, and modules designed to examine common business problems that show up for senior leaders and how they can best be resolved. Two threads running throughout this custom section will be applied group work against “live” business problems that draw on all attending executives’ business responsibilities; and personal learning journals that track insights and growth over the program’s duration. The small size of this group of leaders will encourage open sharing and building life long networks of support and collaboration, as well as a granularity and candor of discussion that can be unavailable in larger classroom settings. This part of the program replicates our degreed graduate programs at MIT; as such, it will involve a heightened dedication and commitment to the program, evening hours of study, intense and probing discussions and analyses, comprehensive projects, and vibrant study group sessions.
"The high quality faculty and collective intelligence of the ACSE group is amazing. I came away with a much more concrete and actionable vision for making a deep change in my company as a result."
- Plant manager, International mining and agrochemical firm
Open Enrollment Programs
ACSE students will also participate in several of MIT Sloan’s open enrollment programs. This allows executives access to a variety of professors’ research in critical areas for any business person, and to a broad range of managers and their issues. ACSE executives will learn alongside a number of participants from different functions, industries, companies, and geographies, and draw on them for their assigned projects and discussions. These open enrollment programs scheduled for the 2012 session of ACSE are:
Reinventing Your Business Strategy
Business Dynamics: MIT’s Approach to Diagnosing and Solving Complex Business Problems
Understanding Global Markets: Macroeconomics for Executives
Dynamics of Globalization
Negotiation for Executives
Intelligent Organizations: Collaboration and the Future of Work

Alumni Gathering
At the close of the program schedule, ACSE participants will convene and learn with ACE certificate holders and past participants of the International Management Program (“IMP”) that ran for a number of years at MIT Sloan. A focused agenda will bring together all of these friends of MIT Executive Education to reconnect on campus, learn, and share best practices. At that time, ACSE participants will be awarded the ACE certificate from MIT Sloan, having completed 25 program days of executive education. They will be awarded the same recognition and benefits as all other ACE certificate holders.

Accommodations, dinners, and weekend meals are not included.
Arrangements may be made to include accommodations, at an additional cost, if desired.

Non U.S. executives are encouraged to apply.
Here's what one participant had to say about ACSE:
Susan M. : Truly Inspirational!!! As a Sr. executive with 25 years of experience, two bachelor’s degrees, one in engineering and one in business, and having worked on my MBA 10 years ago, I really did not know what more I would learn from a 5 week course at MIT. The experience of ACSE was transformational for me. I entered the course as a caterpillar and emerged a butterfly! I learned so much and really appreciated MIT's combination of theory, backed by scientific evidence and then the opportunity to apply this in action learning setting. There was tremendous value in being able to collaborate with people from all over world, which in my experience fostered innovative thinking and an opportunity to learn on another level. I received value from every course I took and the overall experience of being able to reflect for probably the first time in my career.
