Transforming Your Leadership Strategy

Dates:

As organizations move away from a “command and control” model to a more “cultivate and coordinate” model, executives can no longer rely on old ways of thinking about leadership. • Daniel N: This was one class that specifically gave me something to bring home - and I'm not just speaking of the book. I have used the framework on various occasions and have even taught some colleagues some of the core principles.

  • Michael K: This course was my most disappointing experience at MIT Sloan. Although I was a great fan of Professor Ancona's work on X-Teams, the course on Transforming Your Leadership Strategy was a disappointment. The course probably provided the most networking opportunities simply becuase so much time was spent in group breakout sessions rather than in class lectures. I felt the instructor was disengaged and that the amount of preparation for this class was by far the lowest of any of my other classes at MIT Sloan. Overall, I pay to attend MIT for world class instructors, rather than peer-peer networking and experience sharing.

  • Frank L: I consider this to be an essential for anyone who wants to develop as a true leader. Professor Ancona opened my eyes to the fact that our traditional teams are inward looking - a concept that simply does not work well in this new fast-changing world. We can be congratulating each other over how well our conventional teams work together and meet due dates...yet the organization can still fail. This course is a must for any learning track.

  • Jan S: Two specific takeaways with immediate applicability for me: the 4 capabilities leadership model and the x-teams paradigm. Content and professor both solid, and course participants reflected a terrific blend of industries, geography, and positions. Course format (frequent participant exercises) not so apt if you're looking for traditional lecture and reams of information packed into two days.

  • Donald B: This program was very useful. It was scholarly, insightful, practical, and street-smart. Loved the constant rotation of small groups where we did exercises, allowing me to learn from a lot of talented people. Still have the chart with "Sensemaking, Visioning, Relating, and Innovating" on my office wall to remind myself to attend to each of these important areas regularly. Bottom line, it was the best leadership course I’ve ever taken -- it offered me practical advice that I still use on a daily basis.

  • Cynthia T: This program provides a great opportunity to network through team exercises facilitated immediately after leadership framework modules. The model(s) will dispel your traditional assumptions about leadership, project management, and teambuilding. I have been able to apply leadership framework practices when managing a project at the front end, and have noticed improvement in the quality of milestone deliverables.
