ENROLLMENT AND COSTS

Where can I see sample Executive Certificate schedules and costs?

There are many different program combinations available when designing the Executive Certificate plan that is right for you. Here are just a few samples to get you started.

What does the Executive Certificate look like?

The Executive Certificate is signed by the Dean of the MIT Sloan School of Management and the Executive Director of MIT Sloan Executive Education. Click here to see a photograph of a sample certificate.

What are the requirements to earn an Executive Certificate?

The only requirements for the Executive Certificate are that you apply for, are accepted to, and complete three programs within your chosen track and one additional "elective" program (from any of the three tracks) within a four-year period.

How long will it take me to earn an Executive Certificate?

The Executive Certificate is designed to work with your schedule. The only requirement is that you complete four programs of any length within a 4-year period. Many recipients have earned their certificates in less than a year. It is even possible to earn an Executive Certificate within one two-week visit. See sample plans here.

I understand I have four years to complete four programs. At what point does the four years begin?

The four-year time frame begins with your first program start date. For example, if you attended your first program in June 2009, you must complete your fourth program by June 2013.

How do I enroll in the Executive Certificate program?

Use the Program Application/Certificate Enrollment form to enroll in the Executive Certificate program. You have the option to enroll in multiple tracks or indicate that you have not decided on a specific track. You also have the option of enrolling in an Executive Certificate track while you are completing a program application. (You must also apply for each of the individual programs you plan to attend.) You will be automatically awarded the appropriate certificate after completion of the required programs.

How much does an Executive Certificate cost?

The Executive Certificate is designed to meet your individual education needs. You attend four programs: three in your chosen track and one additional program, your “elective”. The total cost to you would be the costs of the individual programs you attend. We also offer a Multiple Program Discount: Individuals registering at one time for more than one program receive 15% off each “additional” program (e.g., If you are enrolling in three 2-day programs, the first program would be at the full price of $2,900, and the two additional programs would be at the discounted price of $2,465 each). All program registrations must be submitted via a single application form.

See sample costs here.

Do I have to pay for all of the programs in an Executive Certificate plan in advance?

No, you pay on a per program basis. You have a 4-year period to complete the four required programs. However, we also offer a Multiple Program Discount: Individuals registering at one time for more than one program receive 15% off each “additional” program (e.g., If you are enrolling in three 2-day programs, the first program would be at the full price of $2,900, and the two additional programs would be at the discounted price of $2,465 each). All program registrations must be submitted via a single application form.

When should I expect to receive my Executive Certificate?

In most cases, Executive Certificates will be awarded during the last required program of your chosen track. However, if you did not provide the same contact information when you applied for each of your qualifying programs, we will need to verify your information and the programs you have taken and will mail the Executive Certificate to you at a later date.

TRACKS AND ELIGIBLE PROGRAMS

What Executive Certificate tracks are offered?

Executive Certificates are offered in three areas of concentration and provide executives with the opportunity to tailor their education plans to meet their own career development needs. To qualify for each certificate, participants must complete three programs from their chosen track, along with one other program from any of the three tracks:

Our executive education staff will be happy to assist you in designing an Executive Certificate plan to meet your individual and organizational objectives. Please feel free to contact us at 617-253-7166 or sloanexeced@mit.edu.

Is it possible to customize my own Certificate track?

No. To qualify for each certificate, participants must complete three programs from their chosen track, along with one other program from any of the three tracks:

You cannot take two programs from one track and two from another for example. Nor can you take two programs from one track and then one from each of the other tracks.

What programs are eligible?

All of the MIT Sloan Executive Education open enrollment programs are eligible for Executive Certificate credit. Select custom programs may be used as your "elective" program. Please contact us directly to see if your company's custom program qualifies for Executive Certificate credit.

Are your programs offered online?

Executive Education programs are held on the MIT campus in Cambridge, MA or at the MIT Endicott House, our Conference Center in Dedham, MA. We do not currently offer distance learning or online programs.

I just recently decided to register for an Executive Certificate track, but I previously attended one of your programs. Would this program count toward my Executive Certificate requirements?

Yes, as long as you complete all four programs within a four-year period, programs taken prior to enrolling in a certificate track will qualify.

I attended an MIT Sloan custom program sponsored by my company. Would the custom program count toward an Executive Certificate?

Select custom programs may be used as your “elective” program. Please contact us directly to see if your company's program qualifies for Executive Certificate credit. If so, you must still complete three open enrollment programs from your chosen track.

Can I apply credit from courses I've taken at other universities or in other divisions of MIT toward an Executive Certificate?

No, credit from courses taken at other universities or in other divisions of MIT will not be applied to an Executive Certificate. Only MIT Sloan Executive Education programs qualify for Executive Certificate credit.

I completed an Executive Certificate and would like to pursue another one; can one of the programs I just finished count towards the other track, or toward ACE?

Yes, you may apply programs you have already taken toward another Executive Certificate or ACE. For example: You earned the Executive Certificate in Management and Leadership with three programs from that track and one elective from the Strategy and Innovation track. You now want to pursue the Executive Certificate in Strategy and Innovation. You may count the previously taken Strategy and Innovation program toward one of the three required Strategy and Innovation programs, and you may count one of the previously taken Management and Leadership programs as the Strategy and Innovation elective, provided all programs are still within the four year period. So, in this example, you would need to complete only two additional programs to earn the second Executive Certificate.

TRACKS AND ELIGIBLE PROGRAMS: ADVANCED CERTIFICATE FOR EXECUTIVES (ACE)

What is the Advanced Certificate for Executives (ACE)?

ACE is a new type of Executive Certificate for participants who complete 25 program days and attend at least two programs from each Executive Certificate track within a four-year period. ACE represents an extraordinary commitment to learning. It is comparable to a traditional advanced management program (AMP) in terms of cutting-edge content, access to today’s thought leaders, and excellent networking opportunities. However, the flexible, customizable format of ACE allows participants to design their own curriculum by choosing the programs that best fit their needs. Advanced Certificate for Executives (ACE) >>
