Edward Commins is a chartered mechanical engineer holding primary, masters and PhD degrees in mechanical engineering, as well as a masters degree in technology and innovation management. He holds a post graduate diploma in safety health and welfare at work and is a chartered member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.
He has been involved in the design and failure analysis of products since the early 1970s. He worked in testing and evaluation for ten years, followed by another ten years as a design consultant working across Asia, Europe, and the United States.
For the past fifteen years, Edward has worked in the areas of technology and innovation management, developing methodologies to improve innovation capability and performance in small companies. This has resulted in the development of an applied innovation model designed to help small companies develop the capabilities to innovate effectively and efficiently.
For the past three years, Edward has headed up the Applied Innovation department of the Irish state agency, Enterprise Ireland, and has used the Applied Innovation methodology as the basis for significant improvement in innovation performance in over 40 companies.
